You do not say how old your son is but in any case the bike identified comes into the BSO category .... check out the main site to see what this means.

So to answer your question, I haven't ridden one and would not want to. Simply looking at the spec tells me that it will be heavy, the gear change will be sluggish and the brakes un-inspiring. The ride will be pretty awful because it will bob up and down a lot. If I took it off road then I would probably kill it in a couple of rides, and I'm retired. If your son is a teenager then it won't last long at all!
