As a general rule the more expensive the bike the component parts will be better and lighter and will probably last longer. That said there comes a point when the realistic approach must be made as to what is wanted versus what is actually needed. There is no point in buying an expensive racing bike to just go to get the daily newspaper. In this case there is over ?400 difference between the two bikes, a substantial hike. So it comes down to a question of what do you want the bike for? At ?1000 the more expensive bike is aimed at the enthusiastic rider who wants quality, will be riding it regularly in all conditions and will expect it to withstand a fair amount of punishment. The lower priced bike is aimed more for the recreational rider who can afford a bike with a bit better than average components without going over the top. The choice is yours to make. I don't know your circumstances or your proposed usage.
