I'm no great fan of Boardman bikes for two reasons.

First you have found out already, they are sold by Halfords and it is unlikely that you will get the sort of help you will need to get it sized, built and adjusted to make sure it is right for you from the average Halfords store.

Second is that they tend to be a mish-mash of componenty. They are specified to a price (usually the price that they will be "discounted" to) and tend to have a right old mix of kit which you can't help think has been put together to make it look better than it is. The one you have picked out is of that ilk, with some SRAM, some Tektro and some FSA in the group set.

You might think that might make me recommend the Specialised but if you look at the detailed spec you will find that it is just as big a mix up of components.

So of the two, I would recommend neither and suggest you keep looking with the objective of finding a bike where all the components match.
