Yeah 17Kg is one heavy bicycle. If you can find a hybrid between approx 12 and 13Kg with tyres suitable for the terrain you are travelling on I think you will see a big improvement. If you are riding mainly on the road then a rigid fork will be fine and this will be lighter than a suspension fork. Try lifting the bicycle up in the shop followed by a test ride and you will know for sure.
