Thanks for prompt reply DocB which coupled with the thread 'anyone else had a bad experience' has given me food for thought.

My thoughts are that even if I can purchase a well manufactured second hand bike for around £200 to £300 (new price £500-£800) and I have to get some repair/maintenance work done say £150 worth I then have a good bike.

I plan on using 'Ebay' but will also look at 'CTC' as suggested by Cotterpin.

I think based on your advise that if I will only purchase from vendor with good feedback, pick up the bike in person and offer to pay cash on collection I stand a reasonable chance. What do you think?

Anyone got any idea how this arrangement would be viewed by 'Ebay'.

Thanks for all your help to date.spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
