No, you're OK on what you've done so far, my comments were of a general nature intended for guidance for all and sundry really. I do get people coming into my shop waving a voucher and who haven't a clue as to what sort of bike they want, never mind size or make. I agree the proof of the pudding will be when you have a ride on the bikes, Evans would probably arrange that for you, but do bear in mind that their "savings" are often because the bikes are not current models. Nothing wrong with that, they're still good bikes.
As regards the components. Most will use Shimano or SRAM, but what you will find is that one might have a more expensive chainset whilst the next has a more expensive rear derailleur and a third has better wheels. At your price point all the equipment will be of good quality, which is why I stressed in my first post that how you feel on the bike is the most important.
