These bikes appear to be aimed at different users. The Trek has a carbon frame and comes with a SRAM 50/34 compact chainset coupled with a 12-30 10 speed cassette, whilst the Cannondale has an alloy frame and comes with an FSA 53/39 chainset (50/34 option) and 12-27 cassette. Thus the Trek has effectively a bottom gear two gears lower than the Cannondale which has a huge top gear This leads me to suspect the Cannondale is intended as a budget racing bike, whilst the Trek is aimed for more general use as it also has provision for a pannier rack.
Both bikes use Shimano 105 gears etc, though the Trek has a Tiagra front mechanism, and both companies have saved expenditure in the wheel hubs and brakes departments.
