As you have probably realised by now there are swings and roundabouts with bike specs. Whilst one brand at a given price point has a better fork than its rival, the second one has better brakes. etc., and here is a typical example.
On the face of it the Specialized looks to be the better bike. It has a suspension fork with lock-out, disc brakes and 27 gears. However the gears are lower spec than the ones on the Trek (Acera v Altus), the chainset is Sugino for which there is no UK distributor compared to Shimano on the Trek. The Specialized may have suspension forks but they weigh a significant 2.65 kg. so whether they are desirable depends on the bikes usage off road. Both bikes use a cassette of 11-32 teeth so the gearing is the same - just that there are more of them on the Specialized.
Overall, the Trek will be quite a bit lighter than the Specialized as apart from the forks the disc brakes are also much heavier than the V brakes.
At the end of the day, it is your decision and no one else can do it for you so go with your own gut feeling.
