Bikes2udirect

Having read all the posts on this forum (I've just found the site and appreciate the info contained in it) I am wondering whether anyone has anything positive to say about Bikes2udirect. Their prices are so much better than all other sites/shops it seems a shame if potential customers are being scared off by the comments on this forum.
A balanced appreciation would help everyone, especially if they are on a tight budget.

Sometimes you are blinkered by the price! Thanks for the balanced view point. Being a new cyclist (returning after a 30 year break) it's good to have the pitfalls pointed out before enthusiasm takes over too much.

Thanks for your advice.

If you are confident about the size of bicycle and are willing to put up with any hassles that might occur if you need to return a bicycle then online retailers can sometimes provide savings. Bicycle shops that also sell bicycles online have qualified mechanics that set up the bicycle prior to dispatch. They then turn the handlebars and remove the pedals for ease of packing. These bicycles only need a few minor adjustments after unpacking and they are ready to ride.

From looking at the Bikes2udirect web site it appears that they are selling bicycles on to the customer without setting them up first. The customer receives the bicycle in a box in the same way a bicycle shop would receive it. The customer is then required to build the bicycle. This is why they can offer cheaper prices. Are you confident of your skills in building a bicycle so it is safe and comfortable to ride?

Thanks for the reply. I was not thinking of a bargain basement, unheard of brand but am looking at Claud Butler which I feel is a reutable brand. £100 saving is not inconsiderable on the price and hard to ignore if on a tight budget.

Tight budget or not, with bikes you get what you pay for. Bear in mind that bikes bought on-line/mail order come in a box for you to build. Your only warranty is with the supplier and if they happen to be 100 miles away then tough. Most major brands now carry a disclaimer that the bike MUST be built by an approved retailer and that there is no warranty on self-built bikes.
I (as a retailer) find that these cheap bikes, (which customers bring in as they can't assemble them properly), take me at least twice as long to get the gears/brakes working at all as it does on recognised brands. One recently took two and a half hours to prepare it was so bad.
What value would you put on knowing that-
The bike has been assembled correctly amd is in a road-worthy condition.
There is the facility for a free check over after 4-6 weeks use.
Any problems which occur in the warranty period can be sorted locally.
