Re: 700c wheels are a drag!

Yes, my apologies, I hadn't spotted the mention of the Claud Butler!

So, as stated by others, the bigger wheel will make the gear ratios different on your hybrid IF the same chainset AND sprocket set are fitted to both. The same combination on the hybrid will take you further (thus requiring nominally more effort) than on the mtb.

Next if your mtb had road tyres fitted, you've already removed a good dgree of the drag created by the tyres so that the difference between your hybrid and the mtb will be closer.

If the hybrid has the 40c tyres mentioned by cotterpin, they will likely be creating quite significant amounts of drag, all but negating any gain. If your mtb tyres were narrower than the hybrid tyres, again the benefit is negated.

As with all combinations of equipment, sometimes the normal "benefits" that we would expect to see are negated. An MTB fitted with slicks can be really quite rapid on tarmac, particularly if the slick tyres are quite narrow AND are inflated to high pressures.
