Hi Chris,

At least you seem to know what you have bought, and well done for getting a bike shop to set it up for you.

11+ miles is a long way for a first effort. For getting fit without stressing your body too much, it is probably better to follow the maxim 'little and often', i.e. start by cycling a few miles every day and gradually increase the distance over a period of months.

You might also find out if there are any local cycling groups who do 'social' rides; at this stage you don't want a group who cycle 60 miles (100 Km) as a morning spin. A gentle ride with a friendly group of cyclists is a good way of getting back into cycling, and it is much more relaxing for you if someone else is leading the way; also traffic is less of a problem if you are with a group.

Keep up the good work.
