Advice on Pinion gears

10 January, 2015 02:27PM
Hi,

Am wanting to buy a new lightweight touring/hybrid bike, have been with derailleur gears all my years of cycling. they are difficult to keep clean, difficult to maintain, difficult to adjust, chain coming off, generally very little improvement or developments to them over the last 40 years.
So, surely the internal gears systems are the future, eg Rohloff,14 gears, Alfine 8 gears, or "the new kid on the block" Pinion Gears,a German product.

www.pinion.eu
for those that have'nt heard of them.

Expensive, 18 gears, new German, brand, spares could be an issue, gears in the centre of the bike, easy to clean, maintain, single chain line.................

I'm looking for any first hand advice on this system, UK bike shops do not to have any experience.
Your thoughts please.
Best wishes
