Hi Holly.

First of all forget the so called 'Women Specific' bike, the handlebars will be too narrow, the position too upright and the saddle will be awful for any sort of serious riding.

Have a look at the Trek Marlin range which come in small sizes and have 650B (27.5"winking smiley wheels. Marin still make a few 26" wheel bikes, great frames with potential to upgrade as you mentioned you have access to components.

The Marin frame is a better geometry than the Trek for more serious trail/park riding. Although 26" wheel bikes are beoming rarer due to the switch to 650B/29, there is a load of decent wheels and forks on the secondhand market.
